At the end of 2007, IS-projects came to life with the exhibition UND Jetzt. Twenty artists from Australia, the US and Europe took part in it. With this and the following exhibitions, IS-projects made a name for itself in the field of what artists such as Dr Billy Gruner frame as non-objective, post-formalist, concrete or new modern art.
After the major exhibition 100 years after De Stijl, which IS-projects curated for Museum De Lakenhal and BiL in Leiden in 2017, IS-projects became the EST art foundation (EST being Latin for IS).
Following the tradition of IS, the EST art foundation continues to pursue the same goals. Since 2021, EST has been located in a defunct hydrogen power plant from 1905, where the exhibition export: bulgaria 5 took place in June 2024. This show marked a new phase of collaboration between EST and nonsofia and introduced works by Bulgarian artists to a new audience.
The selection is a mixture of artists from the Netherlands, who are closely related to the history of IS and thus to EST and nonsofia. Having said that EST follows the common denominator of concrete art, it must be understood that all of the involved artists employ their own set of rules in their work.
